Have you ever had that undeniable feeling that you are supposed to be doing something, but you you just don't know what? Or you do know, but you just can't do it? No, I'm not talking about the dishes or the laundry or homework...I mean something BIG! Like a CALLING. Like your LIFE.
I had that feeling for about 4 years, maybe more. That ceaseless, nagging thought; knowing what I should do, but being too afraid to do it. Then last summer I answered "the call".
In August 2008, after years of evading the signs and the itch to do it, I applied to the US Peace Corps. With a little (actually a LOT!) of encouragement and support from family and friends, I've made it this far in the application process. It's been exciting, frustrating, and sometimes discouraging, when you have to wait so long. But, today I received medical clearance! Finally! Yay!! Which means I'm almost to the last step: receiving an invitation.
Usually they call to invite you/offer you the position, and also tell you the location, and the date you leave. It's been a long, suspenseful process. I'm excited and nervous, but I definitely can't wait to answer THIS call!
